One of the biggest names in the world when it comes to cruises is Royal Caribbean. It's been in business since 1968, offering hundreds of cruises of varying lengths and destinations around the world. On top of that, Royal Caribbean runs several of their own resorts which the cruises then make stops at. They aren't the only company using a system like that. At the same time, they might be one of the few major cruise lines avoiding one of their own resorts.
Naturally, Royal Caribbean is quite closely associated with the Caribbean and various destinations in the region. That includes Haiti, the third largest country in the Caribbean which shares an island with the Dominican Republic. It's also home to an exceptional amount of violence and political strife, so much so that the United States government issued a Level 4 travel warning. Simply put, that means do not travel. The possibility of something bad happening is high.

Given the warning and the serious situation behind it, Royal Caribbean has canceled all cruise stops at Labadee. That is the Royal Caribbean resort in Haiti, which is on the northern coast of the island several hours away from Port-au-Prince. In addition to stops at the resort, Royal Caribbean has also cancelled any and all excursions to the island nation for the foreseeable future. Labadee does have extensive security to prevent issues from reaching tourists, but the danger remains a concern.
This is not the first time Royal Caribbean has taken this kind of action in regards to the escalating violence on Haiti. During the summer cruise season in 2024, the company suspended all stops in Haiti. This was a temporary measure and the cruise line did eventually return to an extent. But a pattern is starting to emerge, leading some to wonder if Royal Caribbean could make a more permanent exit from Haiti.
