While Egypt remains an incredibly popular destination for archaeology-obsessed travelers from around the world, it isn't seen as a year-round destination by many. That's because the country, particularly Upper Egypt, gets incredibly hot during the summer months. Egypt is mostly covered by a variety of deserts, after all. While locals know how to manage the heat, tourists from places like Canada or Sweden who are used to colder climates don't tend to fare as well.

That doesn't mean the Egyptian government is giving up on enticing visitors during those same summer months. If you travel to the country between May and October of 2025, the government is waiving the fees normally associated with getting a visa. This makes planning a trip to Egypt easier not to mention saving travelers a bit of cash, though not that much.

The current cost of a single-entry visa to Egypt is about $25.00 USD, though there are reputedly plans to raise that amount to approximately $60.00 USD. While any chance to save money when traveling is welcome, it might not be enough to encourage anyone unsure about traveling to Egypt during the peak heat to change their minds. The same rules and regulatory hoops required to get a visa are still in place. Make sure you check all of that thoroughly before planning.

Egypt is home to some of the greatest archaeological wonders in the world, including the Sphinx, the Great Pyramids of Giza, and more. Nearly 16 million people visited the country in 2024, a record for Egypt as well as a massive bounce back for their tourism industry since the the pandemic. Temperatures can range drastically depending on the part of the country and the time of year, though summers are basically guaranteed to be hot.
