The second Trump Administration took a running start from day one and has not slowed down. Changes haves been drastic, frequent, and, for many communities around the world, jarring. A long-time ally of the United States, Canada was hit first with tariffs and threats of annexation. That has led to an increasing boycott of US travel by millions of Canadians. The usually friendly Canucks won't even set foot in America on a layover on the way somewhere else.
As it turns out, they aren't the only ones ending their American travel plans. The numbers of international tourists from around the globe canceling their trips to the United States is increasing exponentially. Initial travel projections for America in 2025 was an increase of almost 9%. Now, projections have changed to a decrease of nearly 6%. That equates a potential loss of $18 billion USD with hundreds of thousands of jobs possibly on the line.

Many consider these to be an exceedingly conservative estimates at best. As the Trump Administration promotes isolationist policies and initiates trade wars that destabilize the global economy, those projections are likely to get worse. While tourism is obviously not the focus of the Trump Administration's larger economic platform, it's still a major income driver that employs millions of people. Any decline will cost jobs and push America even closer to a potential recession.
At the core of these are ever-changing rules relating to traveling to the United States. There are seemingly more and more stories of travelers being detained while crossing into America for opaque reasons. Many of these people end up in custody for a significant period of time. On top of that, aggressive deportation moves have many international travelers worried. It's difficult to imagine this situation improving as long as the current administration is in power.
