This NYC Holiday Lights Exhibit is one you don't want to miss this season
By Casey Clark
Looking for a fun activity to do with the whole family this winter in NYC? Well, you'll want to head over to Citi Field to check out the Tianyu Lights Festival. At this larger than life lights festival, ticket holders can immerse themselves in holiday displays fit for the season. The exhibit follows the story of Koda and his father after they arrived in Caballococha in Eastern Peru and he recalls his experiences but this time brought to life through lights.
There are plenty of interactive elements throughout the exhibit from games to fun car rides and lots of photo spots that are most definitely Instagram-worthy. While you're walking around, you may even see a few pandas on the move — be sure to keep an eye out. If you're looking to get some holiday shopping done whether that's last-minute stocking stuffers or white elephant gifts, the marketplace has cute little gifts whether you're interested in panda merch or Chinese lanterns.
Picking your ticket
Depending on the time of your ticket, you may even be able to catch some special 30-minute holiday performances from musicians who are ready to bring the spirit of the holidays straight to your ears. The performances are subject to cancellation based on weather and other circumstances so you'll want to check with an employee to see what the schedule looks like during your visit.
After a little while, you may start to get hungry. Not to worry! There is a food court on site where you can find different types of cuisine including Chinese, Thai, and Argentinian. Plus, you can even purchase hot drinks like hot cocoa to help keep you warm while you explore the outdoor exhibits.
Don't miss out
The Tianyu Lights Festival is happening through January 19 so you'll want to be sure to get your tickets before it's too late. Tickets can be purchased through the website and you'll need to select an open time slot since that's how they manage crowds. Keep in mind that parking is $30, however, it is easily accessible by train so if you want to skip out on paying the parking fee there's also a workaround for that.
Unlike your traditional lights display, this festival is great for kids (and adults) as it's interactive and allows people to participate directly in the fun. Be sure to bundle up because it does get chilly as you explore the parking lot that's covered from top to bottom in lights.
