If you are planning to ring in the New Years celebrations in New York City, you are not planning it anymore.
According to reports, the annual New Years celebrations event at Times Square has been canceled this year due to concerns over Covid.
FoxNews and other outlets are reporting that the events in Times Square will continue without an audience. In other words, you get to watch the ball drop from the comfort of your own home unless you live in NYC and have a view of the tower it falls from.
The NYC celebration will be virtual this year so we can expect to see chilly celebrities talking into a microphone from Times Square while staying socially distanced and others on the network telecasts ringing the new year in from home.
While nothing has been announced quite yet, it is safe to assume that many cities across the country will cancel any live events on December 31st. That’s a shame because it is pretty safe to say everyone wants 2020 to end as soon as possible.

Tim Tompkins, the Times Square Alliance president has told Fox that this year theme would be a virtual event that will serve as a “celebration of essential workers, first responders, doctors, scientists and “both emerging and established entertainers, musicians and artists.”
There will be live elements to the broadcasts but there has been no details yet as to what those might be. Millions of people around the world watch the Times Square event so more than likely the networks can expect big Nielsen ratings this year. Or maybe people realize they don’t really need all the hoopla afterall.
In reality, the only ones that will really be hurt are those that were planning to attend the event. Now, they may need to start planning to wring in 2022 instea.
