From the “sounds too good to be true” travel news department, earlier this week Irish airline Ryanair claimed it will soon offer flights to Europe and the United States for as low as $15.
"“European consumers want lower-cost travel to the USA and the same for Americans coming to Europe. We see it as a logical development in the European market,” the company said in a statement. A Ryanair spokesman said the airline’s proposals included one-way transatlantic fares beginning at £10."
According to a Ryanair spokesperson, the company’s board approved the decision to offer the cheap one-way fares to and from as many as 14 European and US cities. Among those expected to be in the mix are Dublin, Berlin and London (Stansted), New York, Chicago, Boston and Miami.
If the plan comes to fruition, the flights will begin in four or five years. Of course, much must be done before now and then to make the plan a reality. For starters, the company does not yet have aircraft capable of making the eight-hour transatlantic flights.
Still, it’s a very intriguing concept, and if Ryanair can make it work , these cheap flights would certainly make it easier to get to and from Europe affordably.
Ryanair already offers quite a few cheap flights around Europe. As we speak, one can purchase a ticket to fly from London Stansted to one of seven cities around the continent for $16.18.
