This is your sign to visit Serendipity 3 in Times Square
By Casey Clark
If you've ever been to New York City, then you've probably heard of the iconic Serendipity 3, located on the Upper East Side. The line is usually pretty long to get in as everyone wants to have a glimpse of this kitschy restaurant filled with delicious bites and the popular Frrrozen Hot Chocolate. Last month, Serendipity 3 expanded to open its second location in Times Square and it's even bigger and better.
Serendipity 3's new location and ambiance
The new Serendipity 3 location is in the heart of Times Square on West 47th Street between 6th and 7th avenues. Actually, one of the entrances to the restaurant is located right inside the lobby of the OYO Times Square Hotel.
When you step inside, you're instantly immersed into a colorful atmosphere with mosaics, exquisite chandeliers, and larger-than-life paintings. You can either sit at the bar, in one of the cozy booths, or in the main dining room in the back.
I sat in a cute and quaint side booth designed for two and it was perfect. There were also little private dining areas which I thought was a great touch, especially for a restaurant located in Times Square that's so crowded and busy.
Oh, and you'll see shelves filled with cute and quirky toys and handbags that are available for sale too — it's something very unique to Serendipity 3.
The menu
Now, let's move on to the food. There are loads of appetizers to get you started whether you're craving classic chips and guacamole or something more cheesy like fried mozzarella. My personal favorite appetizer is the General Tso's Cauliflower as it's perfectly crispy, sweet, and an overall great way to start a meal.
For the main dishes, there's a plethora of options including salads, sandwiches, macaroni and cheese, pasta, burgers, and foot-long hot dogs. I highly recommend sharing a main course so you can save room for dessert which is what Serendipity 3 is known for.
Some menu highlights include the Serendipity Mac n' Cheese, Crispy Fish Tacos, and the Thai Peanut Salad.
There are some menu items that are only available at the Times Square location such as the Sunday Chicken Dinner Sundae, Cheese Ravioli, Salmon in the Garden and Catcher in the Rye, and the Summer Bries.
The desserts
Serendipity 3 is known for its Frrrozen Hot Chocolate and massive ice cream sundaes. For the Frrrozen Hot Chocolate, you can choose from 13 different flavors whether you're a fan of Fruity Pebbles or s'mores. Not a frozen hot chocolate fan? There are 11 sundaes to choose from such as the Forbidden Broadway, Unicorn Bliss, and the Selena Sundae. There is also the option to make your own if you're craving a variety of different flavors and toppings that are more outside of the box.
Other dessert items include Belgian waffles, chocolate cake, apple pie a la mode, and more.
Be sure to head on over to Serendipity 3 in Times Square next time you find yourself in the theater district or simply wanting a fun and Instagrammable spot to have a meal.
