Rome has no shortage of historical landmarks, many of which date back a millennia or two. There's a reason millions upon millions of people make the trip to the Eternal City every year. It's one of those rare destinations that are steeped in so much cultural history from different eras that you can barely turn a corner without spotting something ancient and/or mind-blowing. But when your city is filled with so much cool old stuff, renovaton and maintenance are the name of the game.

Designed by Nicola Salvi and completed in 1762, Trevi Fountain is still relatively new by Rome's standards. It is the largest Baroque-style fountain in the city, not to mention one of the most famous and iconic fountains in the world. As such, it being shut down for repairs for the past three months has been a big deal. It is on the hit list for a lot of tourists making their dream trip to Rome.

In a welcome bit of good news for anyone planning a big trip to Rome in 2025, the Trevi Fountains are back up and running as of December 22, 2024. The renovations are complete which will help the fountain continue to operate and allow future generations to continue to enjoy it. Like many other European destinations, crowds visiting Trevi Fountains will be managed by limiting visitors to 400 per day with online booking in advance being a requirement.

A big part of the need for crowd management is due to the increased number of visitors heading for Rome in 2025. It is the Jubilee Holy Year, aka the Jubilee Year of Hope. This happens every 25 years and draws in millions of Roman Catholic pilgrims. Rome is overrun by tourists on the best of days. While it's great that Trevi Fountain will be at its best for the Jubilee, crowd management is probably a good idea.
