There are a lot of countries in the world with incredible mountain ranges and stunning views. While you can debate which one is the best, it's hard to argue against Switzerland. The whole country is basically stunning views of incredible mountain ranges. Outside of excellent chocolate and clocks with tiny wooden birds in them, it might be the thing the country is best known for. Now, Switzerland has a new way to enjoy that legendary scenery.
The brand spanking new Schilthorn Cableway is open in Switzerland’s Bernese Alps, and this thing is kind of crazy. It climbs 775 meters/2,543 feet in under four minutes. Not enough? The gradient is almost 160%. The combination of gradient, speed, and distance makes this one of the most interesting rides in the country. It's not dangerous, of course, but those numbers definitely add a bit of thrill to basking in the scenery.
This cable car connects the villages of Stechelberg and Murren. There are actually a couple of fun facts about Murren that make it compelling to visit. First, it is 100% car-free. That means you cannot drive to it and you cannot drive around it. That's kind of a nice vibe. Second, the rotating restaurant in Murren, the Piz Gloria, was used to shoot scenes for the James Bond movie, On Her Majesty's Secret Service. It's not the best Bond movie, but it's a cool piece of trivia and a fun spot to check out.
Outside of that, the big things to do in Murren include hiking, enjoying nature, and some combination of hiking and enjoying nature. This is about as chill a spot as you're going to find in the world. There are, of course, other ways to get up the mountain and take all of this in. But the new Cableway might be the most interesting and exciting of them all.
