Starting August 8, fans, film enthusiasts, and curious travelers are invited to dive deep into the world of “The Shawshank Redemption” with a series of events that promise to be as unforgettable as the film itself. The anniversary weekend is packed with guided tours, actor meet-and-greets, and photo opportunities. Special screenings and panel discussions will feature the film’s writer and director Frank Darabont, key cast members, and background actors.

Explore the footsteps of Tim Robbins (Andy Dufresne) and Morgan Freeman (Ellis Boyd “Red” Redding) at more than a dozen filming locations. The Ohio State Reformatory, where much of the movie was shot, offers both guided and self-guided tours. The Shawshank Trail includes the Renaissance Theatre, Shawshank Woodshop, and Pugh Cabin at Malabar Farm State Park with each spot a testament to the film’s enduring legacy.

The celebration kicks off on Thursday, August 8, with a nostalgic drive-in movie-style screening of the Oscar-nominated film at the historic Renaissance Theatre’s back lot. For those who prefer a more traditional setting, additional screenings with reserved seating will take place on Friday and Saturday.

One of the highlights of the weekend will be the Cast Discussion on Friday, August 9, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m., led by Turner Classic Movies host Ben Mankiewicz. Joining him will be director Frank Darabont and key cast members such as Bob Gunton (Warden Norton), William Sadler (Heywood), Gil Bellows (Tommy Williams), and more. This panel promises to offer deep insights and behind-the-scenes stories.

Saturday and Sunday will feature a Background Actors Panel, providing a rare opportunity to hear from those who filled The Yard with prisoners, populated the market with shoppers, and brought authenticity to every scene. Learn how these 180-plus local actors landed their roles and what it was like to be part of such a monumental project.

Shawshank Bus Tours will take visitors to key filming locations on Thursday and Friday with expert guides sharing fascinating tidbits along the way. All of these events are expected to sell out quickly.
