What’s better than cuddling up with your loved one during a cold snap? How about doing it on Valentine’s Day, in Iceland? Good news, then: PLAY, a low-cost airline, is offering dirt-cheap stayovers in the country over Valentine’s Day with a limited-time sale.
Per Forbes, the airline already offers a no-extra-cost lengthy layover in Iceland on flights between North America and Europe. If you’re heading to Amsterdam, Berlin, Barcelona, Dublin, Prague, and many more, you can get a layover in Iceland for up to 10 days on either leg of your trip, at no extra cost. Granted, hotel and food aren’t included, but you can’t shake a polar bear at essentially free airfare.
That said, you can get flights even cheaper up until tomorrow evening. Until February 6, 2024, at 11:59 pm ET, direct flights from North America to Iceland are only $99, while flights to London, Paris, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Berlin, Dublin, Stockholm, Frankfurt, or Hamburg are $129, with a stopover in Iceland for Valentine’s Day.
Pretty good deal, but here’s a follow-up question: do you want to travel to Iceland in the middle of February? The answer is yes, actually.
While it’s still going to be plenty cold in February in Iceland, the temperature averages a more equitable 33 degrees Fahrenheit. Because of the “warm” temperatures, this is actually one of the wettest months in the country, with more rain than snow. However, you’ll still see plenty of snowy climes while you don’t totally freeze your butt off.
The better news? This is the perfect time to try and see the Northern Lights, as long as it’s not raining or snowing. The tourist season is mostly over, there’s still plenty of darkness, though it’s becoming lighter more rapidly over the course of the month. And while there’s never any guarantee you’ll catch the Aurora Borealis, February gives you one of the best chances to do so.
So what are you waiting for? You can book a flight at PLAY now, and give your sweetie a Valentine’s Day they’ll never forget.
