Expedia Summer Outlook reveals several tips to save this summer
Spring is here, that means travelers should already start planning their summer vacations. Taking advantage of travel tips is a major step in getting the most value out of every dollar sent. Expedia released its Summer Outlook that revealed a lot of pertinent information for anyone looking to take a trip during the hot days to come.
When to book your trip
Airline ticket prices can be expensive and that cost is a deterrent to many people looking to travel. Knowing when to buy your ticket goes a long way in saving money on the flight. According to Expedia, tickets should be purchased anywhere between 21 to 60 days in advance. Doing so creates savings of up to 15 percent for both domestic and international flights. Also, buying tickets that depart on a Monday or Tuesday for domestic and international flights respectively will help you save compared to those flights leaving on Thursday and Friday, two of the popular days of the year to take to the skies for a long weekend.
Mid-to-late August is the best time of the summer to travel because it is less busy during that time of the year. Compare this to June and specifically July when the rates can be the highest time of the summer.
Where are people traveling
According to Expedia, New York and London are the most popular destinations during the summer. The company listed the top ten for both domestic and international travelers, and both lists feature several popular cities including Miami, Las Vegas, Paris, Tokyo, Madrid, and others.
Some cities are trending in both directions as well. San Juan, Puerto Rico is moving up the list of domestic locations, while Kyoto, Japan and Edinburgh, Scotland are two international destinations that are moving up the list.
Saving on holiday travel
Long weekends during summer vacations can be an expensive trip, but the Expedia guide offers tips on how to save money. If you’re looking to travel during Memorial Day, The Fourth of July, and Labor Day, there are several cities listed where you can find ticket prices less than $500. For example, Memorial Day lists New York City at the top of the list, while San Francisco tops the list for the Fourth of July, and Vancouver for Labor Day.
Traveling during the summer can be fun, but it can also be expensive. Take advantage of these tips to get the most out of your money while having fun away from home.
