8 Unique Things to Do in Las Vegas
By Nancy West
There are many reasons that Las Vegas is a popular travel destination. Sin City offers many unique attractions and experiences besides gambling, pool parties, and shows. Here are a few of the more interesting ones we think are worth checking out:
Dig This
If you’ve ever wanted to try operating heavy-duty construction machinery, visit Dig This. This attraction is approximately 15 minutes away from the main strip and offers experiences for both kids and adults. Most of the sessions are 90 minutes and available machinery includes an excavator, a bulldozer, and a wheel loader. An instructor guides you through various challenges, via a headset. This is a unique opportunity to get to try using some heavy-duty machinery!
Fantasy Lab
The legendary Shaquille O’Neill partnered with Fantasy Lab and is the attraction’s Chief Fantasy Officer. Located in the Fashion Mall, Fantasy Lab is an immersive art installation, offering two different experiences. Time to Dream is a family-friendly attraction where guests are guided through the seven different rooms. The visual and auditory experience is meant to take visitors on an emotional journey. Midnight Dreams is a nighttime experience for those 21 and over. Guests are free to roam through the rooms at their own pace and are able to enjoy a cocktail from the bar while doing so.
Flyover
Flyover is located on the Vegas Strip next to the Hard Rock Cafe. Flyover’s creative director is Rick Rothschild, a former Disney Imagineer. In this multi-sensory, immersive flying experience guests “soar” over multiple landscapes. There are currently four different experiences to choose from, including the newest show: Believe Chicago. The majority of the footage from each experience is shot from a helicopter, so visitors see real images.
Mermaid School
On select mornings at the aquarium at the Silverton Casino, adults have the opportunity to attend Mermaid School. As part of the 90-minute experience guests are able to don a mermaid tail and swim amongst the tropical fish in the aquarium! The session also includes a behind-the-scenes tour of the aquarium and more. If you’ve ever wanted to channel your inner Ariel, this is the experience for you!
Omega Mart
Located in Area 15, a couple of miles away from the main Las Vegas Strip is Omega Mart. This immersive art experience was created by Meow Wolf and has been open since February 2021. In “America's Most Exceptional Grocery Store” you’ll find aisles of custom-made products, many of which are purchasable! However, this is not your average grocery store. Expect to find a multi-sensory experience involving secret passageways and hidden rooms. Although this is a permanent art installation, there is also a conspiracy mystery that visitors can try to solve. This is an attraction that needs to be seen in person, as photos do not capture the full essence of this experience.
Play Playground
Play Playground can be found on the Atrium level of the Luxor. This space is a 15,000-square-foot immersive playground and bar for adults only. There are 20 interactive, hands-on attractions involving physical and mental acuity. “Poker Parkour”, “Word Up” and “Perfect Popper” are just a few of the games that guests can compete in. Engaging in all that fun can really work up a thirst and there’s a full bar at the playground serving beer, wine, and a whole menu of specialty cocktails.
SkyJump
Thrill seekers will want to check out SkyJump, which is located in The STRAT. This attraction is the only one of its kind in North America. It even holds the Guinness World Record as the highest commercial decelerator descent facility. Guests ascend to the 108th floor of the STRAT and, once harnessed in, take an 829-foot open-air jump. This is a heart-pounding experience for the more adventurous!
The Sphere
The Sphere opened in the fall of 2023, off the Las Vegas strip. This 18,600-seat venue offers an immersive experience to visitors through different mediums. Artists like U2 and Dead & Company have taken the stage with live concerts. The Eagles recently announced an eight-show residency at the Sphere for fall 2024. While concert tickets may be difficult to acquire, there is also a ticketed two-part immersive experience available for guests. Postcard From Earth is a multi-sensory film by Darren Aronofsky. Prior to viewing the 50-minute film, visitors enjoy a 45-minute interactive experience in the atrium.
