If that city happens to be Auckland, New Zealand, you're in luck. It's the biggest city in the island nation, containing roughly 32% of the country's population. As such, there is no shortage of things to do in Auckland which makes it incredibly easy to kill 24 hours.

A surprising number of cities around the world have excessively tall buildings that have levels open to the public and Auckland is no exception. The Sky Tower is located in the Central Business District, putting it in the vicinity great shopping and dining. Not surprisingly, it has several levels near the top which offer incredible views of Auckland and the surrounding area.

Even if you don't know what Weta Workshop is, you know the company's work. They have been involved in the film and television industry since the late 1980's, making props, prosthetics, and more for some of the world's biggest productions. That includes The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. You can tour their facilities to get a look at their work up close and personal.

If you had to pick an absolutely key feature of Auckland, it would have to be Waitemata Harbour. It connects the city's main port to the Auckland Waterfront and all of that to the Pacific Ocean. And there various harbour cruises that will let you see the city from a completely difference angle. A sunset sailboat ride around Waitemata Harbour with dinner sounds pretty nice.

Sometimes referred to as the Auckland Aquarium, SEA LIFE Kelly Tarlton's Auckland is a great way to experience the marine dwellers that make this part of the world so special. SEA LIFE has numerous exhibits with an incredible range of wildlife, including sharks and penguins which are not kept in the same tank. The facility is also home to a sea turtle rescue center which you can learn about.
