With the support of the Lazizi Group of companies, Marriott International has announced plans to open two luxury safari camps in Kenya. The projects will allow guests to experience the natural wonders of this incredible country while simultaneously experiencing an almost absurd level of luxury. This won't be tent camping on the savannah with coffee over an open fire, keeping in mind that actually sounds pretty darn good, too.
The first of the new camps, The Ritz-Carlton, Masai Mara Safari Camp, is currently expected to open in 2025. It will be within the borders of Masai Mara National Reserve, a massive biodiversity hotspot. The region is home to the annual Great Migration of millions of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles. Accommodations will include 20 tented suites as well as multiple fine dining options and leisure facilities. That will include game drives and cultural experiences.

The JW Marriott Mount Kenya Rhino Reserve Safari Camp is currently expected to open in early 2026 and will be situated inside the Solio Game Reserve. Like the Ritz-Carlton camp, this one will be decked out with a variety of amenities, dining experiences, and leisure activities. There will, of course, be multiple opportunities and experience the wilds of the game reserve, a privately owned sanctuary dedicated to rhino conservation. Not surprisingly, it's a good place to spot rhinos.
Kenya is a major travel destination in Africa due to its impressive levels of biodiversity as well as its well developed tourism sector. At the same time, issues with crime in major centers have stymied growth in recent years in this sector. Curated safari experiences remain a safe way to see the natural wonders that draw millions of tourists to the country each year. Bringing in additional luxury options like this will help bolster those numbers.
