Travel and adventure has long been the domain of groups. It could be a family vacation to Disneyland or a honeymoon to Hawaii or a boy trip to Las Vegas. The status quo has been heading out as part of a group in some capacity. But that seems to be changing as solo traveling is becoming the new normal, particularly among women.
Women-only tours have been on the rise for quite some time. Groups of like minded travelers heading out on adventures without their partners. That idea is taking its next evolutionary step as boutique travel agencies that cater to solo women travelers looking for fill out their bucket lists are springing up. There are, of course, male solo travelers who are out there. But recent research has shown that more than 70% of solo travelers are women, making this a full blown trend.
It is certainly a huge switch on the most common travel advice in decades past, that traveling alone as a woman is incredibly dangerous. And that is still good advice. Some parts of the world remain incredibly challenging for women in general, doubly so for women traveling on their own. As such, any woman on the road on her own unfortunately still has to keep her guard up. Staying safe out there is the number one priority on any trip, regardless of who you are or aren't traveling with.
Still, a new generation of female solo travelers are finding both safety and adventure thanks to new services catering to solo traveling experiences. That includes the aforementioned travel agencies as well as hotels around the world offering special deals and new services that cater to this emerging demographic that is growing at a fantastic rate. 2025 will be a big year for the industry as it continues to learn how to accommodate this group.
