Just a few hours away from the Central Valley, the Monteverde region is one of the top ecotourism destinations in the country. At the center of that is the Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve. Established in the1970s, the preserve has grown by a factor of 43 times since then. There are nearly 2,000 species of mammals, birds, amphibians, and reptiles here. That includes all six cat species.

San Jose's Barrio Escalante

Costa Rica is more than jungles and wildlife, though those are the main reasons people travel there. There are also incredible spots in different cities to explore, such as Barrio Escalante in San Jose. It has become incredibly popular with travelers and locals alike thanks to the ever evolving food scene. Some of the best restaurants in the country can be found in this neighborhood.

Guanacaste Province is in the Northeastern corner of the country on the border of Nicaragua. What makes it so amazing are the stunning beaches along the Pacific Coast, particularly Conchal Beach. The white sand pops against the turquoise, crystal-clear water, all of it framed by volcanic rocks around the bay. Prepare yourself for one of the greatest sunsets you've ever seen.

The Ujarras Ruins in Orosi Valley

On its own, the Orosi Valley is worth visting. The valley itself is beautiful and serene, and the actual community of Orosi is a far cry from how busy San Jose can be. The valley is also home to a unique archaeological site, the Ujarras Ruins. This is what's left of one of Costa Rica's oldest churches, built in the 1500s. It's also one of the few Spanish colonial churches built in Costs Rica during that era.
