Tourism in South America has been steadily on the rise since the end of COVID-era travel restrictions. Natural beauty and incredible culture can be found across the continent, varying greatly by region and country. While most countries seem to be going through a travel renaissance, some are jumping out as superstars. That includes Chile.

The South American nation saw a 40% increase in overall tourist numbers from 2023, largely spurred on by visitors from Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina. Affordability is a major driving factor for people planning their vacations in Chile. This includes relatively cheap airfares to Chile as well as stable hotel rates. That's on top of great shopping experiences. The currency in Uruguay and Argentina has been stronger than Chile, leading to a greater ability to afford trips for pleasure.

But the desire to travel to Chile runs deeper than affordability. The country offers diverse range of experiences, including urban, cultural, and natural. Regions like Patagonia have become increasingly popular with visitors from other South American countries, driving travel plans. The natural wonders of Chile boast stunning views in addition to almost unbelievable biodiversity. Thanks to the accessibility of the country, people can plan adventures that include all elements of the country.

With tourism to Chile from across South America expected to grow in 2025 and beyond, it's only a matter of time before the rest of the world catches on. Tourists from outside of South America accounted for a relatively small percentage of visitors, but the numbers are encouraging. People visiting from the United States and Mexico set records in 2024, as well, highlighting the potential for growth for Chile in a variety of travel markets.
