Traveling across country in the United States can get rather hectic, particularly over the holiday season. One option many people don't consider is train travel. Despite being the first method of travel to link the continental United States together, a lot of people in the modern era have somewhat forgotten that it's out there. Except in very specific circumstances it seems, which is unfortunate. It can be more comfortable than either driving or flying.

Amtrak is looking to get travelers back on the rails across America. From November 7 to 14, Amtrak is having a 40 percent off sale on many of its routes. Travel dates are between December 2, 2024, and March 15, 2025. This makes it the perfect option for holiday travel over Christmas or New Year's as well as any winter vacations you have planned to warmer parts of the country. It's an option that makes the mode of travel into an enjoyable part of the trip.

As always, there are several blackout days in that range of travel dates which include December 24 and 26. Additionally, there are certain trains that the sale doesn't apply to. But it does cover several popular routes in Coach with fares as low as $13.00 each way. Additionally, Acela business class seats in the northeastern United States are also heavily discounted. Both Coach and Business Class offer a level of comfort not found when flying. No middle seats with more legroom is hard to beat.

There are several shorter routes between Boston and New York, Los Angeles and Sacramento, Portland and Seattle. Some longer trips include New Orleans and New York, Dallas and Los Angeles, and Seattle and Oakland. A holiday train trip that would take you from New York south to ring in the New Year in New Orleans has huge potential.
