Is the Post Office open on Labor Day? (2021)
By Cody Schultz
Labor Day is Sept. 6 which, for many of us, we get to kick back and enjoy a three-day holiday weekend thanks to the holiday on Monday. It also means that many businesses are closed for the holiday which can make it difficult to determine who will or won’t be open on the holiday including the post office.
While it’s generally easier to keep track of when the post office will be closed on some of the bigger holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving, the same isn’t always the case for smaller holidays such as Labor Day.
In fact, it’s likely the mystery surrounding the U.S. Postal Service office hours for Labor Day that brought you here today. So let’s not waste any time and dive right on into the burning question on your mind: is the post office open today?
Is USPS open on Labor Day? (2021)
Because Labor Day is a federal holiday, the U.S. Postal Service will not be open on Monday, Sept. 6, 2021, as the post office does not do business on federal holidays. As such, local U.S. Postal Service branches will be closed for the day in observance of the holiday.
Will mail and package delivery run on Labor Day? (2021)
Because the U.S. Postal Service does not do business on federal holidays and is not open for the holiday, there will be no regular mail delivery on Labor Day. In other words, no need to head out to check your mailbox on Sept. 6.
There will, however, be Priority Mail Express delivery as the service is said to operate 365 days of the year. You can also turn to self-service kiosks which are also expected to remain open for the Labor Day holiday, though it doesn’t hurt to check the U.S. Postal Service locator for complete location and service information.
