School is back in session but that doesn’t mean you can’t travel around this country. Here are some travel ideas for school field trips. Class field trips are great for any age and any grade.

• Zoos

It goes without saying that just about every state has a zoo of some kind. Whether it is a large zoo that covers 100s of acres or a small petty farm with a variety of animals, zoos are a great way to continue the education process outside of the classroom while sneakily providing continued education.

• Theaters of the performing arts

Even if you are living in rural America, finding a local theater is never really that hard. Sometimes your drive time may exceed an hour but taking a class to a theater can be incredible. I remember my daughter’s first viewing of the Nutcracker at our local theater. It wasn’t a Broadway traveling group or anything on that level but it wasn’t local either. Regardless, she still remembers that moment and most children do as well.

The performing arts theaters around the country are great ways to introduce children to something new and oftentimes exciting. It can change the way a child views these types of entertainment later in life as well.

• Aquariums

Not every state has an aquarium, but don’t think that because your state is landlocked that there isn’t one. While Texas may rest on the gulf coast, Dallas has a great downtown aquarium. Atlanta is nowhere near the coast but has one of the best in the country.

Many aquariums these days offer hands-on exhibits where children can touch, hold, or even feed sea life.

• Farms

We can’t simply discard the working backbone of our country, after all, none of us would be eating if not for this nation’s farmers. Many farms across the country offer opportunities for schools to bring children to visit. It’s a great way for kids of all ages to see the work that goes into food production, livestock farming, and more.

All of these are great educational opportunities that give kids an opportunity to not realize they are actually learning as they go. Field trips, even in this day and age of COVID can be successful simply by taking care and precautions.
