Never a park to rest on its laurels as the most magical place on Earth, Disneyland has changed the game, again. This time, by opening the brand spanking new Avengers Campus as part of Disney California Adventure Park.

Continuing to make the most out of their acquisition of Marvel and all its associated intellectual properties, there is now a way to interact in real life. And it actually looks like an incredibly interesting experience.

Avengers Campus opens for business

The process of developing Avengers Campus has been on the go for several years. Anyone who had spent time in California Adventure would have noticed the increasing amount of Marvel content in that part of the park.

This got started in 2017 when The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror ride was converted into Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout! It opened shortly after the release of the second GOTG movie in theaters around the world.

What is now Avengers Campus occupies the land that once belonged to A Bug’s Land. This long-standing portion of California Adventure was closed down in 2018 to begin developing the new MCU feature and move into the future.

After a lengthy delay due to COVID, Avengers Campus officially opened its gates on July 4, 2021. Naturally, the crowds have been as intense as current pandemic restrictions will allow. But once everyone can travel freely, again, it will be a huge attraction.

What to do there

Avengers Campus is home to six attractions. One of them is, of course, the already established Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout! It was in the area and was subsequently absorbed into the new section.

Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure is an interactive screen ride that involves following Spider-Man on a mission. Part of the upcoming Phase 2 will include a new Avengers Quinjet Experience, which should prove to be a lot of fun.

There are also a pair of interactive experiences to wander around. The Ancient Sanctum allows guests to meet Doctor Strange and explore mystical ruins. And Avengers Headquarters is exactly what you think it should be.

As one would expect, there are also plenty of Marvel-themed shops and restaurants in the area. Not surprisingly, there’s a Shawarma Palace in case you want to recreate the end credits scene from the first Avengers movie.

Planning you trip

When planning any trip to Disneyland, there’s a lot to keep in mind, including getting tickets and hotels lined up. Keep in mind that some pandemic restrictions may cause limitations in the booking process. Plus, it’s new and popular. If you have specific dates you want, book early.

The other thing to consider is that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is over in Disneyland. If you want to check out both experiences, and it’s likely that you will, that’ll require tickets to Disneyland and California Adventure.

Just as food for thought, it’s worth noting that there are currently MCU attractions similar to Avengers Campus in development in Disney’s Tokyo and Paris parks. Checking out a new Disney experience and Tokyo at the same time does sound appealing.

Avengers Campus is a worthy addition to the Disney California Adventure Park, and there’s more coming. It’s yet another reason to plan a trip to Southern California and to spend at least part of your time in the happiest place on Earth outside of Finland.
