Imagine Van Gogh will extend its Vancouver stay through the summer
Living in larger centers like Vancouver means having access to incredible amenities. That includes enjoying a vibrant arts scene that not only celebrates local artists and contributors but draws in exhibits from around the world.
That’s certainly been the case with the Imagine Van Gogh touring exhibit. It’s done so well at the Vancouver Convention Centre that it’s extending its stay through September 7, 2021. That means locals and visitors will have more time to take it all in.
Imagine Van Gogh and Image Totale©
Image Totale© is a fully immersive experience, a way of appreciating art on a completely different level. In1970s, photographer and filmmaker Albert Plécy developed a new form of projection that would change the static perception of art.
The result was Image Totale©, a means of creating that immersive experience. The person viewing the art becomes engaged in it, moving through a universe of images all around them. You choose how you impact it and how it impacts you.
Vincent Van Gogh is the perfect choice for this exhibition. His continued popularity is undeniable. And his expressive, vibrant style lends itself perfectly to this type of exhibition. Even the biggest fans of the artist have never seen his work like this.
More than immersion, Imagine Van Gogh is an amplification of his work. The warping technology used in the exhibit creates a level of intimacy with his art that cannot be found anywhere else. In many ways, it’s like his art is being freed from the canvas.
Enjoying it in Vancouver
Imagine Van Gogh is currently on in both Edmonton and Vancouver. The Edmonton exhibit opened on July 6, 2021, and is currently scheduled to run through September 5, 2021. It’s taking place at the Edmonton Expo Centre.
But the Vancouver exhibit was supposed to be done by now. Tickets for the original run that started on March 11, 2021, sold out quickly, so the end date was extended from June 11 to August 29. Now, it has been extended again until September 7.
Housed at the Vancouver Convention Centre, the plan was not to run two Canadian shows at the same time. But the demand is obviously there and the people behind the tour have responded. If you’re interested in going and tickets are available, make sure you do so.
At this point, these shows are unlikely to be extended. While there is no official start date, there is a show scheduled for Tacoma, Washington in late 2021. And the Boston, Massachusetts show will start on December 21, 2021.
Experiencing more of Vancouver’s art scene
While Imagine Van Gogh is obviously something in Vancouver that demands to be experienced, the art scene in the city is much bigger than one show. If you’re going to be in town for Imagine Van Gogh, there are a few other things places you must go.
Naturally, the Vancouver Art Gallery is a key stop. An obvious stop, but a key stop nonetheless. The Inuit Gallery of Vancouver is also outstanding as are the Surrey Art Gallery, the Petley Jones Gallery, and the Seymour Art Gallery.
The Bill Reid Gallery of Northwest Coast Art is an absolute must, as well. It is a superb showcase of contemporary aboriginal art of the Northwest Coast. And the Gordon Smith Gallery of Canadian Art offers a stunning collection of work by incredible artists from across the country.
Assuming the tickets aren’t already sold out by the time you read this, the Imagine Van Gogh exhibit is a great reason to head to Vancouver. It’s also a great reason to check out the existing art scene, food scene, and more in this amazing city.
