5 Triple D joints you absolutely have to check out in Austin, Texas
Given the size of Texas and the number of happening food scenes in its various cities, it’s no surprise that Guy Fieri and Team Triple D have made several visits to the Lone Star State. In particular, Austin seems to keep calling Guy back again and again.
Austin has a lot of interesting and unique restaurants to choose from. Any one of them should be on your itinerary if you plan a trip, but the ones that have appeared on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives over the years are definitely worth a look.
Casino El Camino — Triple D Season 4
When you put 30+ seasons into tracking down interesting and unique restaurants, you end up visiting hundreds of them. And inevitably, a few of them close down. That’s why it’s so nice to see a Triple D OG from Season 4 still doing business.
Casino El Camino offers an interesting range of burgers, hot dogs and sandwiches. And there are more than a few that look intriguing just from reviewing the menu online. Plus, the name of the joint is just ridiculously cool.
Luke’s Inside Out — Triple D Season 14
This is a tiny box sitting on South Lamar Boulevard, but it reputedly packs huge flavor. These kind of spots are always fascinating because of how much great food comes out of such a small place. The Triple D crew found out that Luke’s Inside Out is no exception to that rule.
The main menu has a few simple but solid sandwiches on it as well as a couple of interesting appetizers and a nice salad. But the big surprise is that this place does a Sunday brunch. The menu isn’t huge but what’s on it definitely gets the flavor jets firing.
Austin’s Pieous — Triple D Season 29
Go to the website for Pieous. Do it. I’ll still be here when you get back. Looks amazing, right? Without question, Pieous has to be a must stop restaurant for anyone heading to Austin, Texas, even if you’re only there for a couple of days.
There are a lot of options to choose from, including some pastrami that’s reputedly to die for and some desserts that look delightful. As one would expect, the pizzas are the star of the show. If they eat half as good as they look, they’ll be the best pizza you’ve ever had.
Slab BBQ & Beer — Triple D Season 29
The website for Slab BBQ & Beer is quite literally “dopebbq.com” which you have to respect. It is a place that delivers on what it’s name promises, which in this case is awesome barbecued meats combined with some excellent beer. That’s probably why Triple D ended up there.
There are a lot of ways to enjoy the meats they’re making, mostly in sandwich form. They also fire up burritos and nachos, though. But if you’re feeling especially dangerous one day, try The Donk. It has every meat they make plus veggies, queso, Fritos and all four Slab BBQ sauces.
Valentina’s Tex Mex BBQ — Triple D Season 29
If you send Guy Fieri to Texas, he’s going to eat barbecue. Follow his example, and keep eating delicious meats. You and I both know the smell of a place like Valentina’s Tex Mex BBQ is going to draw you in from a mile away, so don’t fight it.
As the name suggests. Valentina’s food mixes Tex Mex ideas with traditional barbecue concepts. That’s how you end up with interesting flavors on delicious meats. And you get that meaty goodness in sandwiches and tacos.
