Indian Independence Struggle Has Seen Vigor and Valor of the brave men and women that worked tirelessly to gain Independence.
Note: We understand that there are a lot of places of historical importance in the Independence Struggle, and we have picked just five to talk about the power of India and its Freedom Fighters. It doesn’t discount any effort put across by the sung and unsung heroes of India’s Independence Struggle.
India has the oldest literature and literary work and is also home to an Independence struggle that is the best in the world. It was a struggle not set by one, two, or a group of people but by every person and every family that made it the biggest fight for Independence. Indians are known for their vigor and fighting spirit, and there are various examples throughout history.
Maharana Pratap Ji is one such name that comes to mind, as does Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Ji, and these are just some of the names that we are mentioning, but that doesn’t mean that we are omitting anyone. Every support during the Independence Struggle strengthened the will of the people of India who wanted their own country constitutionally led by their people.
No journey can commence and culminate without leaving its mark. The Indian Independence Struggle has some places that you should visit to understand the importance of the Indian Freedom Struggle. We list some locations that hold historical value, and these are a few among many:
Lucknow Residency
A standing monument that talks about the efforts taken by the brave people of Awadh, the Residency is a shining armor of the efforts put forth by the always peaceful and democratic citizens of India. Sir Henry Lawrence was appointed the Chief Commissioner of Oudh (The name used at that time for Awadh), and he, with his team of 1400 Britishers, decided to stay safe in the Residency.
When he moved out to confront the rebellious regiments, little did he know that he will face a team of Fifteen Thousand people that were ready to fight in the blink of an eye. A two-month fight broke down where Lawrence and his team fell short on the utilities leading to a retreat by him and his team.
Queen of Jhansi’s Fort
A lot is written about her, along with a poem by literature laureate Shri Subhadra Kumari Chauhan Ji where she describes Queen of Jhansi’s power, courage, and the ability to withstand any problem head-on in these words:
बुंदेले हरबोलों के मुँह हमने सुनी कहानी थी,
खूब लड़ी मर्दानी वह तो झाँसी वाली रानी थी॥
It means that we have heard from the people that lived in Bundel about a Warrior Queen of Jhansi who fought with absolute vigor.
There are not enough words written in the alphabet or the dictionary to define the efforts put forth by any and every person that fought for India’s Independence. Fighting with everything and leaving fear away is a powerful thing. Indian Freedom Fighters have displayed it various times that words can’t fathom it. They have written a new definition of what fighting for motherland truly means, and no place in the world can surpass it.
Cellular Jail
The traitors or people who wanted to rule and ruin India’s sovereignty knew that people would fight for their motherland and save its honor, and they were not wrong. Battukeshwar Dutt and V D Savarkar are two of many names that came to this abandoned jail. They served their sentence as a reward to serve and protect their motherland from invaders.
A famous word back in the day, known as Kaala Pani, was about this jail. Prisoners reached this isolated jail with no human interaction or presence for as long as you can see. It was a mental method used by the invaders to inflict pain on the brave men. The freedom fighters were ready to go all in to save their motherland.
Paona Brajabashi and Khongjom war memorial
Paona Brajabasi and other warriors fought the British Army at the Khongjom battlefield of 1891. It was a fight that required high-end artillery, but with help afar, Brajabashi and his group of warriors fought till their last breath.
Northeast is an integral part of India, and Paona Brajabashi Ji and his troops’ effort confirm that you are born brave, or you aren’t. When his team fell to the British, the Britishers asked him to switch sides. The brave Brajabashi Ji stated that he would rather die than treason. These were his last words as he removed his headgear and signaled them to behead him. Don’t you feel goosebumps reading it? We did when we wrote about such brave people that have graced Indian soil.
Jalianwala Bagh
Can there be anything crueler than shooting at innocent people without any warning? We thought so, and this happened on April 13, 1919. Baishakhi Pilgrims and non-violent protesters, protesting against the arrest of two leaders, Dr. Satyapal and Dr. Saifuddin Kitchlew, were shot at without notice, leaving many injured and killed.
It was the turning point of India’s Freedom Struggle, and this left everyone teary-eyed. Shri Udham Singh Ji decided to take revenge for this heinous crime and took out Michael O’Dwyer in 1940. Michael had supported Reginald Dyer’s decision to open fire on an innocent crowd.
No matter where you live and what you do, the time spent saving, protecting, and dying to prevent the honor and respect of your motherland supersedes everything. As we end this article, we hope you will remember those sung and unsung heroes that laid their lives and those that lived on to make this country a better place than what they saw when they first gained consciousness.
