For fans of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, there is something special about staying in an Airbnb inspired by the hillside homes of Frodo and friends (and Bilbo and his people too). And while we may not be able to travel to New Zealand for the actual Hobbiton experience (right now), that doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate a fantastical getaway in the United States.

With the help of Airbnb and some very creative individuals, fans of J.R.R. Tolkien can find themselves spending a night or two in some rather unique abodes. From the “Hobbit Style Underground Cabin” in Virginia to the Cozy Hobbit House in Washington, these three Airbnb spots are perfect for any fantasy and magic lover out there looking to get away for a while, who also enjoys the beauty of nature.

While we can’t guarantee any magical sightings at these Airbnbs, these little homes are all about getting back to nature. And once you see them for yourself, you won’t want to stay anywhere else.

3 Airbnbs for the Hobbit lover in us all

Cozy Hobbit House

Located on Bainbridge Island in Washington, this hobbit house is all about enjoying a little slice of nature. Staying here is like being one with nature, and that is made even more clear when you realize that this house is close to the beach, as well as Meigs Park. But that’s not all as this Airbnb is “2 miles from the Grand Forest and 3 miles from Battle Point park.”

And for anyone wondering about the history of this cozy home, it turns out that it was hand built by the family who currently owns it (and runs it as an Airbnb). The only really important thing to note for this particular destination is that this is a lot like “glamping” as there is no bathroom in your Hobbit house. Instead, there is a portable restroom near your abode.

Hobbit Style Underground Cabin

Located in Broadway, Virginia, the Hobbit Style Underground Cabin is a fun earthy experience in the Blue Ridge Mountains. This is a chance to unplug from the world and enjoy the beauty around you. It’s a chance to take R&R to the next level and not only that, but it is done in a way that will leave any Hobbit happy. Handcrafted by the family who runs the Airbnb, it is clear that a lot of care went into this destination.

There are fields of flowers to appreciate, a waterfall shower, a small kitchen area, and even the makings for waffles. This is Hobbit living taken to the next level and we are here for it. And considering they have a 4.99 star rating on Airbnb, it is clear that people are loving every bit of their time in this underground cabin.

The Hobbit House

Found in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, the Hobbit House could have literally transported itself right out of Tolkien’s books. While this is not going to be a luxury stay, it is everything a little Hobbit could hope for on a camping trip. Much like the Cozy Hobbit House in Washington, this location has an external restroom – no showers though.

However, if you are up for an adventure, then this is a must for those with a bit of magic in their hearts. We are talking about an earth home designed for the Hobbit in us all. And that means that this is no ordinary destination. In fact, they make that very clear on the booking page when they explain, “this is a house made of MUD that has not been constructed like a regular home, it is made from nature so there may be things in the house from nature as well aka critters.”

If you want to be one with nature, love all things Tolkien, and want to live like a Hobbit even for a night (or a weekend), then these three Airbnbs are a must. From Washington to Virginia, these three homes are unlike anything you have seen before.
