5 Triple D joints in Honolulu definitely worth visiting
Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Drives has been exploring America’s most interesting restaurants since 2007, and has somehow crammed 33 seasons into that short time. Over the years, Guy Fieri and Triple D have been to Flavortown more times than anyone could keep track of.
Triple D has spent quite a bit of time in the great state of Hawaii over the seasons. That included visiting more than a few restaurants in Honolulu. No one’s ever going to suggest that they are going to be high end restaurants, but the food is good and that’s what matters.
Hank’s Haute Dogs — Triple D Season 8
Few foods scream America quite like a good ol’ fashioned hot dog. But the funny thing about Hank’s Haute Dogs is that it’s a lot more than a good ol’ fashioned hot dog, not that there’s anything wrong with an absolute classic.
Hank’s has an incredible range of delectable dogs and sausages to choose from, not to mention a lot of ways to dress them up. If you’re not there for a hot dog, which makes no sense, they even have a couple of burger options to choose from.
Rainbow Drive-In — Triple D Season 9
If you’re looking for a legit, old school drive-in, this is the spot. It’s quite likely that Fieri said something to that effect when introducing the Rainbow Drive-In on Triple D. And if he did, he was absolutely correct.
Rainbow has been in business since 1961, with several locations around Oahu, including Honolulu. They are great spots to pick up plate lunches, burgers, sandwiches and more. Keep in mind that there are some menu differences between each location so plan your visit accordingly.
Fresh Catch — Triple D Season 15
Chef Reno has become a Triple D all star over the years. After meeting him while visiting Hawaii, Reno has become a fixture of subsequent Hawaiian visits. When Guy Fieri finds a connection with someone, you can bet you’ll see them again on the show.
But those ongoing relationships always start with great food which is in no shortage at Fresh Catch. They specialize in the three Ps; poke, plate lunches and platters. The food is incredible and, as the name suggests, made with only the freshest catches from the Pacific.
Nico’s Pier 38 — Triple D Season 8
Triple D always ends up finding interesting places and Nico’s Pier 38 is no exception. The menu is an eclectic blend of French and Hawaiian traditions in cooking, creating some intense and unique flavors to be savored.
Being that Nico’s is also a fantastic fish market, you would expect that this spot is loaded with delicious seafood. If you’re not sure what you want, the Poke Sampler is always a good call. But other dishes like the Furikake Pan-Seared Ahi and the Grilled Peppercorn Swordfish are great.
Murphy’s Bar & Grill — Triple D Season 9
Most people traveling to Honolulu aren’t going there looking for an Irish Pub. Then again, most people aren’t Guy Fieri. He found himself at Murphy’s Bar & Grill in Season 9, and was not disappointed by the experience.
While the location has roots going back to the 1860s, Murphy’s has been in business since 1987. It’s an interesting mix of classic pub food, Irish classics and more than a few Hawaiian dishes. For some people craving a slice of home on vacation, this is a good stop.
