Hotel review: The Silver Lake Hotel on Ocracoke Island

One of the more quaint places on the North Carolina Outer Banks is Ocracoke and the best hotel to stay at is the Silver Lake Hotel.

Located only minutes from the ferry dock, the Silver Lake Hotel is a waterfront hotel that has beautiful views of the harbor and if the time of year is right, the sunsets are as incredible as the sunrises.

The hotel is within walking distance of the shopping district located nearest the ferry dock and incredible restaurants that line the harbor and even a small grocery store. Inside, the rooms are spacious and while somewhat outdated, still bring a charm to the establishment.

There are several room types that will provide you plenty of space for even larger families and some rooms can be adjoining if you need extra space.

Currently, the hotel is undergoing renovations as one of the buildings suffered severe damage from Hurricane Dorian. In fact, the hurricane wiped out some of the best rooms that once provided jacuzzi suites and large balconies with hammocks that overlooked the harbor.

Now, only the “motel” is open but they have 18 rooms with harbor views and eventually, once the reconstruction is done, the hotel will surely bring more options to the traveling family.

Ocracoke is quiet and after the sun goes down, there isn’t much going on around the village. It’s important to understand this as the locals love having guests and visitors but maintaining the ambiance of the area is important as well.

If you are looking for a place to stay on the quaint island, Silver Lake is the best there is on the entire island. The proximity to everything is perfect and the view is unquestionably grand. Unlike some other harbor facing hotels, Silver Lake remains one of the more family friendly hotels when it comes to cost.

Whether it is a weekend or a week, you won’t be dissappointed.
