The Mighty Eighth museum in Georgia is a special stop

Shortly after you cross the state line between South Carolina and Georgia, a full size retired military plane will greet you on the left side of I-95. Welcome to the Mighty Eighth Museum.

The national musuem is home to the Mighty 8th, the bomber squadron regiment from WWII and the subject of a new Apple + television series from the producers of Band of Brothers and The Pacific. The Mighty 8th will be coming soon to the network and have started casting.

Tickets to the museum are tiered and priced by child and adult but there is also a tier for active duty members and dependents. Prices run from $7.00 to $12.00.

There are a lot of different sections at the museum that brings visitors face-to-face with the missions and the war itself.

  • Prelude to WWII takes you through the catalyst of events that drove Germany to attack.
    Mission Experience will take you through several of the missions early and late.
    Combat Gallery allows you to see those who fought.
    Airman Down takes you under a deployed parachute into enemy territory.
    Lights Come on Again takes you into the celebrations of post war in Europe celebrating V-E Day, or Victory in Europe.

The grounds are filled with aircraft and inside you will find so much more. The Might Eighth squadron was a heralded unit and if you want to take on more of the WWII history, stop at the Tuskeegee Airmen monument in South Carolina off I 95. The monument is located near the airport in Walterboro, SC.

This location is where the Tuskeegee airmen learned to fly and where the Red Tail squadron would eventually leave for the European theater.
