The United States is freezing right now and only those lucky few who traveled south to Florida are smiling right about now. Or those who actually live in Florida.

A winter storm has covered almost every inch of the United States with freezing temperatures, freezing rain, below zero wind chills, and snow. All but the Sunshine State.

Welcome to The United States Hates Florida Day!

From Southern California, across Texas, Georgia, and the Carolinas, temperatures are dipping today and the next few days to record-setting lows. In Houston, it is around 19 degrees. In Albuquerque, NM, it’s around 15. Even in Phoenix, Arizona, temperatures have dipped into the low to mid-50s. Here in North Carolina, we are sticking around the mid-30s during the day.

Way down south, however, from Miami to Tampa Bay, sunny skies and 80-degree temperatures are greeting the lucky hoards of out-of-state travelers who picked the right week to get out of the rest of the states. Travel north from Tampa, however, and the weather drops considerably and quickly. In Tallahassee, the temperature is around 59.

In Galveston, a rare snowfall covered the Gulf Coast beaches. Power outages have been reported all over Texas and neighboring states. Winter Storm Uri isn’t done yet and the effects will slowly move out to the northeast through the week but there is plenty of damage already done along its path.

By mid-week, the Ohio Valley should see more snow on the backside of the storm as it moves towards upstate New York and finally offshore over Maine and Massachusetts.

Still, for those lucky enough to be in mid-state Florida and lower, enjoy being in the only place in the U.S. with temperatures over 70 degrees!
