If you need to get out of the house, the best option may be to take on RV travel.  RVs are an expensive “hobby” but they are also an ideal option for small families and taking to the road during a pandemic may be pretty easy.

For those of us who own a recreational vehicle, traveling the open road during a pandemic can be quite easy. In fact, you don’t have to come into contact with anyone, at any time, or anywhere. And, you can still get out of the house and enjoy life.

From state parks to oceanfront RV parking, all you need is a little bit of cash and an open road. Yes, you still have to put gas into that RV but you have to do that at home as well. Yes, you have to get groceries for your trip but you have to get those at home too. The point is, if you own an RV why are you staying locked up in your house?

I’m not trying to downplay the pandemic. Not a bit, in fact, it’s quite the opposite. We need to stay home as much as possible but we also are coming to the point where doing so, can drive us crazy. In an RV, you can take your home with you.

We recently took a quick weekend trip and it reminded me how much I missed traveling. During my trip, I came into contact with exactly three people that were not in my family. The guy at the grocery store, the lady at the entry to the park (who was behind a glass window), and some guy whose dog got loose and ended up snacking on an uncooked hot dog my kid threw out of the package. So, really, no one. And I didn’t get within six feet of any of them.

Unlike hotels, you don’t know who was there before you. Unlike someone’s house, you don’t know where they have been either. In an RV, you know exactly who has been in it because it is yours.

Now is a great time to get out there and take a road trip. Many state parks are not at capacity because of travel issues. This is an opportunity for you to get to places you may not have been able to book in the past. My brother lives in Florida and is consistently booking state parks on the weekends that his wife is off. What would typically take months to free up, are taking days.

Use this time wisely and safely. You can venture out of your home and doing so in an RV keeps you away from others and gives you a taste of getting out of your house.
