Europe offers an incredible number of travel destinations for people from around the world. But one city that calls to many people is Berlin. It is Germany’s capital as well as its largest city, and is a center for arts and culture on the continent.

Naturally, Berlin is home to some major pieces of history, and all of it is more than worth seeing. That being said, there are more than a few things to do that many travelers wouldn’t think to add to their itineraries.

Sanssouci Park

Calling a palace modest seems like an oxymoron but in this case it is correct. From a relative point of view, at least. Regardless, Sanssouci Palace is still quite impressive to visit, though it’s nowhere near as impressive as the gardens around it.

Located in Potsdam on the border of Berlin, Sanssouci Park is stunning. It consists of 300 hectares of baroque flower gardens, seemingly endless greenhouses and nurseries, and thousands of fruit trees. It is one of many brilliant outdoor experiences around Berlin.

Zoo Berlin

Not everyone feels a compulsive need to check out every zoo in every city they go to. But there are certainly people make them a priority on any trip. Whether you’re a zoo fanatic or not, Zoo Berlin is still an extremely worthwhile stop in the city.

Zoo Berlin boasts an impressive range of animals from around the world. In fact, it has almost 1,400 different species, making it one of the top zoos in the world. In addition to that, it’s located in the Tiergarten, arguably Berlin’s most popular and recognizable park.

Museum Island

To get this out of the way, Museum Island is not a level from a Sonic the Hedgehog game. Museum Island is exactly what it sounds like. It is quite literally a group of outstanding museums located on the northern part of Spree Island.

There are a total of six incredible museums, each one containing amazing collections of art from different eras. Some of the buildings have been there since the 1800s. Even an incredibly fast anthropomorphic blue mammal would slow down for this.

Mauerpark Flea Market

Planning a Sunday in Berlin needs to include a stop at the Mauerpark Flea Market. It happens every Sunday in Mauerpark in Prenzlauer Berg, and it is a popular spot. This is a great place to shop a huge number of stalls for incredibly unique items and antiques.

But the Mauerpark Flea Market also offers some one of a kind opportunities to sample Berlin’s amazing street food. Since the Flea Market only goes down once a week, it’s definitely something you have to make sure has a very specific spot on your itinerary.

Street Food auf Achse

Sundays in Prenzlauer Berg are apparently a big deal in Berlin. This time, head for the KulturBrauerei where you will find a Sunday staple since 2015. Street Food auf Achse, aka Street Food on the Move, is a collection of some of the city’s best street food located in one place.
