Google Year in Search 2020: Virtual travel tops the trends

Field trips and museum tours topped Google’s Year in Search 2020 virtual trends

What did you Google most last year? Election results, coronavirus and Kobe Bryant were among the top searches overall, but Google Trends breaks it down even further into specific categories, such as News, People, Recipes, and even Virtual. For the Year in Search 2020, virtual travel was represented three times on the Virtual list.

Coming in at the number one position was virtual field trips, followed in the number two spot by virtual museum tours. Further down the list, at number eight, was virtual tours.

What terms were searched most in each of the three categories and where did the searches come from? Let’s take a look.

Year in Search 2020 virtual field trips

The top five states where searches for virtual field trips came from were:

  1. Delaware
  2. New Hampshire
  3. Rhode Island
  4. South Dakota
  5. Hawaii

Related topics people searched for when looking for virtual field trips included “child” and “zoo.”

Specific top queries included variations on the theme of “virtual field trips” and included:

The top five states where searches for virtual museum tours came from differed a little from the ones for field trips, but one state (New Hampshire) made both lists.
